CourierPostOnline.com
A mother-son team hosted opening Salsa Night at Octo Waterfront Grille in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
On-air radio personality Maria de Pilar played a Latin mix throughout the night after her son Arturo Perez led a salsa lesson for more than 20 people.
Octo is the same building that the former Rock Lobster occupied. It had been a mecca for salsa dancers before closing its door. Octo is competing against Brasil's Nightclub in Old City and NXNW, or North by Northwest, in Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, for the Wednesday Salsa Night crowd.

Jobseekers converge on Philadelphia waterfront

Mention a job fair anywhere in the Delaware Valley and hundreds of people turn out.
That was the case today at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn's Landing, where a new nightspot was taking applications and interviewing prospective employees.
One hundred new jobs are up for grabs at the Octo Waterfront Grille. It is located on Columbus Boulevard at the site of the former Rock Lobster, which closed in 2007.

First There Was Octo-Mom... Now, Octo Grille

Maybe one day, somewhere, somehow, some way, Philly will have a waterfront worth spending time on. While other metro areas (Chicago, Vancouver, New York) have capitalized on their harbors and riverbanks, we've been content to gaze at ours from the Ikea cafeteria rather than risk life and limb Frogger-ing across Delaware Ave. Penn Treaty Park, seemingly serving as the village green for Fishtown/Kensington/NoLibs, is a good (but rare) example of life along the River. The conversion of Pier 11 is another step in the right direction. This summer we hear of OCTO Waterfront Grille, setting up shop in the old Rock Lobster. When we were kids, we remember thinking Rock Lobster was the pinnacle of sophisticated grown-up entertainment. We were stupid kids.

OCTO To Finally Save Hellaware Avenue From Itself
Phoodie.info
Mention the idea of partying on Delaware Ave. or Columbus Blvd. to you noobs - to local persons of a certain vintage, and you can still provoke a quick case of the douche-chills. Back in the day, joints like Maui and Gothum made the street closest to the Dirty Delaware synonymous with knucklehead-ery of the highest order. But these days, it produces almost no reaction at all: What, are you gonna get dragged to Dave & Buster's? Or maybe get your head punched in at Cavanuagh's? Good luck, bub, and take a sleeping bag.
